I do think we generalize too much, and "merely interfacing with a computer program" is too big a generalization. I could imagine that a videochat with your lawyer is protected because the very definition includes client / lawyer communications, ie., a "video chat with your lawyer" cannot happen without you and your lawyer yet there it is, both interfacing with a videochat program.
A chat with a chatbot never needs a lawyer to be a "chat with a chatbot" lol
I use them for the b2 bucket style storage where this happens. Its expensive per gig compared to the cost of a working personal unlimited desktop account. I like to visit their reddit page occasionally and its a constant stream of desktop client woes and stories of restoring problems and any time b2 is mentioned its like "but muh 50 terabytes" lol
It's cheaper if you have multiple computers with normal amounts of data though. My whole family is on my B2 account (Duplicati backing up eight computers each to a separate bucket), and it's $10/month.
Well sure, all market signals should be considered. As a casual observer, my received signals have been indicating that AI is getting sold at a loss to get market share, and more recent signals have indicated that users are really really sensitive to both costs and performance.
The weakest signal to me is investor money, because when you think of it, investors are betting on a future that may or may not be there. Heck even trends aren't guaranteed, "past performance is no guarantee etc etc"
Not me, trump should have at most received 1 to 2 percent in either primaries or the general election, even in 2016 we knew what sort of fellow he was, at least the folks who could read more than a paragraph in a sitting.
The primaries were the worst, at least the generals you get conservatives voting party lines, the primaries are where "conservatives" decided that trump was their guy. just go back and read up on republicans descriptions of trump before they had to get in line in the wake of the trump victories. I exclusively hold the trump voters in the primaries responsible. We're the sort of country of laws that traditionally says any loser can run for office, its our job as a society to keep at least a plausible set of standards for who we want in office. "Conservatives" who went trump either failed to do their due dilligence, or they are aligned with trumps value system which common decency prevents me from describing in any detail.
This is in my opinion a better use of tech that has an error rate (hallucination), you just assume that its a fuzzy search, and sample the results to see how you did. I'd like to see a few from the results for sure!
I dunno, ruling seems to have a point to me, a non-lawyer. claude is not an attorney and his attorney was not involved until after the claude "conversation". Look at for instance the exchange of emails with your lawyer, are they privileged? Yes, with caveats according to gemini but it could be lying of course. How about if you emailed your mobster uncle asking for advice on how to use a lawyer to keep your guilty ass outta jail? Is that privileged? All of a sudden I'm not so sure.
This seems to be a pretty narrow ruling but maybe I'm missing something not being a lawyer and all.
I look a Claude / ChatGPT as an extension of my thought. It should be held as such in all court proceedings. It’s used to allow me to think and reason about things.
Idk how that works with journals today, but anything like this which helps me organize my thoughts should be off limits to discovery.

Gotcha, I still think manually myself. To me, typing illegalities into a chatbot just seems sort of well I dunno, unsafe? Yes, I understand at some point in the decline of civilization our universe of legally acceptable acts sort of also decline, often at a rate inversely proportional to our net worth but even recognizing that fact I still try to be polite and well behaved to my online chatbot although I do talk about my depression often and such so its not like it doesn't totally know me. The one time I got into an argument with one was on my phone and it started lecturing me on manners and I was like oh fuck this phone has my email. That was some time ago and my email still works so hopefully I won't do THAT again.
Still I do sort of see where you're coming from but not your computer, not your data.
yeah the models are great and all but will they continue to be great? anthropic has some real miserable looking finances, and as a counter example, googles gemini is starting to get stingy with its tokens or whatever (I get this from complaints in reddits antigravity threads). I suspect that googles the one who's homing in on the actual costs as anthropic and others are still in startup launch mode with all the big investments.
