Scattered Minds by Gabor Mate. Really helped me understand my ADHD (diagnosed in my 30s) and why I do certain things or act a certain way around other people. I feel I’m much better at explaining my actions so people don’t think they’re boring me or I’m not paying attention
I was referred by my GP over a year ago for an adult ADHD diagnosis. I used the NHS Right To Choose so that I could use a private clinic, however even with them the wait has been a year and they're saying the earliest I'm going to be seen is October. My GP has contacted me to say there's a new service they're starting soon and that I've been referred there too, but they couldn't tell me how long the wait would be - basically they said to go with whichever one is available first.
If you can get a referral from your doctor, I would have a look at Right To Choose and go with someone private like Psychiatry UK as you shouldn't have to pay, the NHS will take the cost of that. (Also a note that paying them money doesn't get you seen any quicker, I've tried asking)
My favourite sport is cricket. When I was younger, it was always shown on terrestrial TV (mainly BBC or Channel 4), but after the huge success of the 2005 Ashes, Sky bought the rights and you then had to buy Sky Sports to watch it. As such over the years the interest in cricket in the UK seemed to fade, and hardly anyone was taking an interest in it anymore.
I can almost see this happening with the Olympics to some degree, if it continues to be shown only on channels you pay for, people are going to lose interest in watching it more and more over the years. I like watching the Olympics but to be honest not enough to pay an extra £7-10 a month to see it where the coverage isn't nearly as good as the BBC can do.
I agree, this doesn't seem like much of a solution. Due to the incredible amount of noise my 2019 16" MBP makes when I have it open and a 4K monitor attached, I have to always use it in clamshell mode, which makes almost no noise at all unless I'm watching a video or doing certain things in VS Code.
I too looked at the title and thought someone had finally figured out how to get around having the laptop open and a monitor plugged in with no noise, but it seems like this basically makes no difference at all since it only works when the lid is shut. I've resigned myself to the fact that it'll never be solved, and hope to get this MBP replaced at some point
> Will switch to Apple Silicon version of 16 when it comes out
After buying Mac during a 4 year run of devices with unfixably broken keyboards and GPUs, that will not teach apple to focus on quality or repairability.
Firefox for iOS has a dark mode built in, it's how I always read HN on my phone these days. The only downside is it can make some websites look very strange as it will invert a lot of the colours, but for HN it works really well
This is great, and something that I would get completely lost in for hours. I've become much more interested in ancient history after recently getting the book "Secret Britain: Unearthing Our Mysterious Past" and I'm keen to explore some more history around Europe at that time
