It's almost like the people who thought of the first amendment didn't see 99% of speech going through private companies at some point in the future. My snark isn't pointed at you, just at the people whose talking point is "first amendment is about the government!"
I like this article around this topic. I read it many years years ago and it rang very true for me. Traveling can be fun but it doesn't solve the problem needing purpose (for those with that need).
This is something I've come to learn as I get older. I used to beat myself up over all the stuff I thought I should be doing with my spare time but didn't. Then I realized - if I'm not doing it and I don't feel motivated to do it, then it's probably not actually that important to me.
I make decent money. A lot less than all the FAANG engineers here, but still probably double the national average. I can't afford a house in the major city I live in and not sure I ever will but I'm comfortable and just trying to enjoy my life at this point.
Not sure if this was the first year for tax returns to have it, but I was asked to document every single time I spent bitcoin to purchase something. Because you have to pay capital gains on the value above when you bought it. I wonder if this is true here but either way it's a massive pain in the ass.
I think if you do something like this it's more about the process than the result. If all you wanted was a cabin it's faster and cheaper to just buy one.
Cutting down old trees happens all the time for lumber.
It should be the other way around. When everything is packed closer together you are far more likely to fall victim to supernovas, more asteroids and so on that can end life on your planet.
