How many programmers you know like video games?

At my old job the entire department, at my current place of employment 50% or better. so out of 30 professional programmers that I have worked with about 20.

Another article demanding that coders have no self-respect, but this time, it's assumed that self-respect is a masculine trait.

I've held GSG for a year or so and wondered why it wasn't gaining while gold, oil, and everything else was going up. Is there any way to invest in oil using a standard brokerage account? Doesn't seem like it.

Does FreeBSD have any real purpose anymore except as the base of your new proprietary OS?

It has the purpose of hosting my local SAN, Samba server, irssi sessions, and various other tools. It has sane configuration, and a wonderful package system.

While it seems your comment is flamebait, it is true that many of the proprietary hardware appliance platforms I've run across are FreeBSD. Surprisingly, I'm seeing more and more Linux in said devices too.

(Responding to your comment, not the troll grandparent): I'd agree. It wouldn't surprise me if the largest financial benefactor of the various BSD's work was NetApp.

As if government stimulus was the only cause of economic growth.

I think everyone has realized this by now.

Realized what, exactly? The tagline, that the web means the end of forgetting, or some facet of the content linked?

We're figuring out that facebook is evil, we're figuring out that our employers don't like us having 'fun', we're realizing this, and that, and coming into the realization that this is not our parent's world, not even the world our education proposes to have prepared us for, to be, in many cases, preparing us for.

I think we're still realizing, all of us, in a very big way, that the world is suddenly less fuzzy. It is, as the article proposed, a brutal village.

> we're figuring out that our employers don't like us having 'fun'

No. They don't care whether you're having fun. They care about whether you're doing what they're paying you to do. They want to avoid anything that interferes with that.

> the realization that this is not our parent's world

Mostly it is. You do have smart phones to replace the snazzy digital watches that distinguished them from their parents.

that is called growing up.

is this an argument that the world hasn't changed since our grandparents were our age?

Maybe they did. It's not like you'd know.

It's perfectly normal. You just have to deal with it like everyone else does.

Depression is mainly alleviated by doing something productive almost every day. That way, your night feels good because you got something done, and so does your next morning.

Frontend and backend are different skill sets and proficiencies. Backend is more analytic, frontend is more aesthetic. I've never worked at a company that didn't have this distinction; people tend to naturally go one way or the other.

We took what you're used to... and flipped it around! Did I just blow your mind??
