Their business model can be whatever they like outside the EU. To do business inside the EU then you follow EU law, or you leave the EU market.

Apple doesn't have to do business here, they can leave if they think the regulatory environment is not favourable for their business needs. The vast majority of people here won't care much or at all.

In west europe PCs were riddled with crapware if you bought a prebuilt windows machine in the 90s and early 00s. Wipe and reinstall windows was first thing I would do with a new PC, it was a necessity. I don't know about intervening 20 odd years, I used linux, but I recently installed win 11 home and had zero crapware. Windows ISO from microsoft, harder to install than garden variety linux (not hard, just more annoying and takes way longer), but no tiktok, roblox, disney etc.

Maybe it's an EU thing that stopped all the preloaded crap, no idea.

This made me think of Terry Pratchett books.

If it's any consolation (and assuming you're not Irish), spelling it is helpful in Dublin too as we spell it different ways here. It could be eoghan, eóghain, owen etc. So if you're making a reservation at a hotel, restaurant etc. then spelling it out won't do any harm.

I was born in Dublin but left when I was young. It's mostly my last name people have trouble with. Not in Ireland.
