Hey HN! I started w/ this project a couple weeks ago, completing a rough version, to my satisfaction, in an hour or so. Then I realized something was missing: lots and lots of tests, CI, automated deployment, separation of logic from the UI, etc. I am admittedly very pleased with where I ended up, it was a blast to recreate this game.
My guess is that the industry is in a rush to get some where in regards to screen size, who ever gets their first can then work on battery life. Its still all about spec wars.
The tagline does seem to be marketing jargon, good for them. I'm seasoned with the docker CLI and I still think this is awesome, a UI on top of docker. Mostly it means that I can convince my teammates (who, for example, heavily use GitHub for Mac) to dive into docker without whining.
My high school was either the first or one of the first public schools with PDAs (Palm Pilots) over a decade ago and it ran into the same problem. Not only was their not curriculum for them, but my guess is that half of the teachers simply didn't use them in classes at all.
I agree that the technology needs to trickle into the schools by way of the teachers (I think that's along the lines of what you were getting at) before anything new really gets adopted.
