I'd imagine some recognition technology could take into account body proportions, posture, (commonly worn) apparel, etc. to make facial recognition less needed.
Yeah, I find it annoying when people presume to refer to an unknown person as 'He" or "She". It's especially annoying when a writer randomly alternates genders throughout their document. Pandering much?
The singular "They" has literally been used in the English language since the 14th century, and its usage is well-understood. Any English teacher who dissuades you from its use should be stripped of their credentials, because "they" are an idiot.
Frankly big name FOSS projects have developed a massive paternalist streak over the last decade or so.
This in complete ignorance that what attracted people to them in the first place was to escape the paternalism (and black box nature of proprietary software) from the likes of Microsoft.
It's the obvious malicious intent that we see time and time again with Facebook, the companies they own, and like-minded companies like Google and Amazon. People are fed up with the BS. It's atrocious that no tech people speak out or get the airtime to inform people what's going on without their knowledge (and most of the time, consent). Facebook is a scourge to humanity.
