I see him as a fraudster rather than a crank and there is no reason why people that are good at mathematics would not be able to commit fraud. In fact, they're probably better at it.
Being good at mathematics also does not preclude crankery. Quite the opposite really, if you can see the theoretical underpinnings of reality it’s a short step to believing you know everything.
Gödel was famously on the far side, suffering from an obsessive fear of being poisoned and starving to death when his wife was hospitalised because he refused to eat anyone else's food.
The book you link to talks about mathemathical crankery, but a mathematician would most likely be a non-mathematics crank, as crankery usually requires a lack of / limited understanding of the field and subject. Although there are some strange cases e.g. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_de_Branges_de_Bourcia
The point still stands that Gödel was not a crank. He was mentally ill, but his scientific and mathematical work was about as far removed from crankery as possible.
I certainly notice the difference between my 4K OLED 15.6" Thinkpad X1E and my old 1080p 17" MBP. The smoothness is unbelievable.
No idea whether that's the 4K or that OLED contributes too. I certainly think QHD should have been enough, but that was not an option, weirdly. Having to choose between 1080p and 4K is absurd. Give us some options in between!
Oh yes. I am an IEEE member of reasonably long standing and this just complicates things for everyone, particularly for IEEE chapters in other countries where Huawei may have a presence and are active participants locally.
These Chinese gov did't intend to ban academics, but political materials. But since they value their own benefits much higher than the benefits of academics to the Chinese people, they ban all the things, maybe because it's not technically easy to just ban individual pages given the huge amount of the materials. That's a very bad thing to ban the free Internet access.
Hi all,
For those who are not familiar. Google is indeed banned because the CHN gov does not want us to see political adversary contents. However, google is available in the University I am working at for accessing research materials, especially scholars.google.com.
I guess you were right, politics are banned, but academics aren't
