I have have noticed this, there seems to be an 'Ivy League ceiling' which exists and presents others from breaking into certain roles, even if they have the experience and skills for them.

This might be the start of hacker mercenary groups which corporations hire.

I remember in the 2000's there was a site that did exactly this. I can't remember the name now though, maybe someone else will know what I'm talking about.

RIP Byzantine Empire

1453, worst year of my life.

Honestly, the Fourth Crusade in 1204 was more of a "real" death of the Byzantine Empire than the conquest of Constantinople in 1453. Although the largest remnant of the Byzantine Empire was able to reconquest Constantinople in 1261, the city's population never recovered (it went from ~400k in 1204 to ~50k in 1453). The 14th century saw it riven with a series of civil wars, which the Ottomans used to expand their foothold into the remnants of the Ottoman Empire. By 1453, Constantinople was unable to really defend itself without garrison from the major European states like Hungary and Venice, and Mehmet II was able to conquer the city before those states could get their forces sent out.

Valve and devices like the Steam Deck and soon the Steam Machine are also grabbing the gaming segment away from Windows. Distros like Bazzite also are enticing to those technically inclined enough to boot from a USB drive and run the simple installer.

It isnt a huge amount of people yet but those things do plant the seed that grow over the bext decade.

I think the user should be paid for the data that is being gathered up. If we want a source of UBI for the future where AI is replacing every job, well here is a potential source to fund it.

dynamic/discriminatory pricing driven by AI leveraging all this data would just ensure that any money people got from UBI was funneled into the pockets of corporations anyway.

>then AI will make it easier to close all the doors in the future.

AI could also make it easier to open the doors too.

Or if not bigger hearts, what about multiple hearts?

Wow, what goes on in a RAM module is so much more complex than I thought.

Reminds me of a video I saw where there were 2 AI bots meant to interview a candidate, then at one point the AI bots started interviewing each other. It ended with both AI's stuck in a loop of saying 'Have a great day' to each other.

About 9 months ago I was working on building an Icecast server from scratch, with the gimmick being that between songs there would be AI-generated DJs that would give the normal corny banter you hear on the regular radio. I was initially using OpenAI for everything, but TTS from OpenAI ended up being kind of pricey.

So I started looking into models I could self-host for this stuff.

I can't remember which model it was, but one of them was kind of amusing because it would be two DJs signing off endlessly

DJ1: "Thanks for listening to WTOM, this has been Greg, signing off for tonight"

DJ2: "You said it Greg, it's been a great night, this is Bill, signing out"

DJ1: "Absolutely Bill, playing you out on a July evening this has been Greg from WTOM"

DJ2: "You better believe it, have a great night everyone! From WTOM this is Bill, wishing you a lovely Wednesday"

And it just kept going. Out of morbid curiosity I just let it keep going for an hour one day and they never stopped "signing out". I found it endlessly amusing.
