360 feedback usually happens a few times a year while Dot Collector feedback seems like it's for every meeting [0][1]. This reminds me of the Black Mirror episode "Nosedive" where everyone is rating everyone for every social interaction (e.g. saying "hi" or paying a cashier).

Do you think this acquisition actually opens doors for Instacart/Shipt? Existing grocery chains are now going up against Amazon. Maybe they'll be more willing to partner with Instacart/Shipt to compete?

Hard to say if it opens doors or not, but it is not out of the realm of possibility.

Think about this: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Who is Amazons BIGGEST enemy? Probably Walmart.

Getting a partnership with Walmart would be HUGE for Shipt. And honestly would be good for Walmart as they try to defend their turf.

Sarah Perez had a good article related to this: "Amazon wants to become Walmart before Walmart can become Amazon" (https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/16/amazon-wants-to-become-wal...)

Eaze looks fantastic! I applied for an engineering position there 10 days ago; when might I expect to hear back?

Zojirushi SM-SA48-BA Stainless Steel Mug, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYOGTTG -easy to clean -great ergonomics -best heat/cold retention vs. other products

Color irrelevant (up to personal preferences) and specific model w/e, but that aside… good god these mugs really are fantastic:

* they just look plain good, no unnecessary flourishes and the few "unnecessary" features (the locking lid) turn out to be pretty much necessary in the end

* the opening mechanism is just perfect, it has great feedback, is hard to misuse, it's extremely well designed on its own, the double-action opening is just gorgeous

* the entire assembly trivially comes apart for inspection and cleaning

* the heat retention is so good it's a bit too good, filling with fresh coffee early morning and scalding your tongue all the way to mid-afternoon is a bit extreme

We have several similar Zojirushi products at home (SM-KHE48BA) and I'm convinced that they violate the laws of physics somehow. I've never had a vacuum flask that works so well.

Zojirushi neurofuzzy rice cooker. I love it!

I have one of this and you will have to pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

Since self-driving cars are still a new experience for most people, all of that visible topside gear might give riders a sense of security.

It looks more like a way to simplify manufacturing. Put all the sensors in one factory-built topside unit, then bolt that to the car. Less labor intensive than hanging stuff all over the car, cheaper in small volumes than integration with the car body, and you can align everything during manufacturing.

This sort of add-on thing is temporary. Another generation and cars will have an equally good sensor suite, but it will barely show.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It's not a beauty contest as long as Uber is owning the prototype fleet. Plus, I think it will clue in other drivers to: "Dude, that was one of those 'driverless ubers' right?"

> It's not a beauty contest

And plenty of taxis in my neck of the woods have rooftop advertising, anyway.

On the other hand, it makes it clear the car is an Uber. Illegal parking and such will be a lot easier to ticket.

I googled "American "football" is a game played by carrying a ball in one's hands, or throwing it by hand. Why on earth would someone come up with such stupid name as "football" for this kind of game?" and this was the first result: https://www.quora.com/Why-is-American-football-called-footba...

From 2009 to 2011, Google spent ~$8B on capital expenditures (buildings, property,& equipment) while Amazon spent ~$3B on capital expenditures. Given Google's scale, they probably have better economics than Amazon.
