And privacy.

Why?

I dislike it particularly because of the implication of stupidity: "I believe only stupid people won't know this, but I'm going to tell you anyway".

In general it's poor form to assume readers know anything - consider (for example) a future lay-reader who is trying to find out this information.

Because it's a tired, overabused cliche.

But we are not grading an English essay are we? The content of the article was quite good for a "normal" non-tech person.

I don't think the content of the article was particularly good.

The advice on how to protect yourself from being spied on is essentially:

"stop using the internet; or use HTTPS - which is probably compromised anyway; or encrypt - which is probably compromised anyway; or use a VPN - which I will say next to nothing about"

It's just a rehash of points and opinions already better expressed elsewhere.

We don't wan to read an English essay either.

And the symbol for metre is "m" not "mt"

Strange that the URL for that article says June 28th!

Likely will be printed on June 28th, thought it appears online earlier than that.

And so we enter the wilderness of mirrors...

It was originally set for 28th, but then they changed their mind. The url didn't change.

At least thats what happens with wordpress.

In wordpress you can change permalink, if someone links you to the old permalink it gets automatically redirected to the new link

> Let's show the community that Objective-C developers care about open source.

by organizing an event only to boost statistics.

This takes fanboyism to a whole new level.

Or it's just a hook for catching peoples' interest in participating in the group thing the hosts were organizing. (Yes, it'd be silly to devote your time to an effort like this to try to "help" Objective-C. But I don't expect anyone is really doing that.)

Edit: What the OP said.

It's a call to action, to get Objective-C coders more involved in open source. Obviously it's not to the detriment of other open source code.

There is a similar tool built into Firefox (Tools -> Web Developer -> Responsive Design View)

Didn't know that. That's pretty cool. However, its only for Firefox 15 which isn't available for mac yet..

It is available for Mac! The latest available version is Firefox 21.0 (stable channel).

What do you know. I updated Firefox from Firefox itself and it only updated me to 12.

Google Chrome has it built into the inspector as well, however it is not nearly as fancy as the one found in Firefox.

Please, this is HN after all! I would expect most of the guys and gals here to know about tools such as isup.me or other similar tools. I don't think we need a post for every other website that goes offline.

You don't need to be logged in to see it (I was able to see it in a Firefox private window).

Here's the link without the fancy animation : http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends
