I disagree and feel that's a very simplistic explanation. If anything the past four years of democrat reaction to Trump has directly contributed to the situation we're in. The failure to acknowledge this simple fact is startling.

If you were a Trump supporter who was just called a fascist, racist, bigot, white supremacist, uncle tom, unintelligent rube during the past four years, and you watched as the media, hollywood, elites, and democrat party tried everything possible to undermine your legally elected President, including unmasking of family/friends/campaign, bogus 2+ year Russia investigation peddled as fact by the pundits 24/7 7 days a week, impeachment #1, daily conspiracies of all variety, and I could go on; would you trust the outcome of the election?

There were hundreds of sworn affidavits including by democrats and independents, factual things worth investigating if not to simply bring closure to the numerous issues, and the democrats instead not only slammed the door shut, they opened have and continue to deride conservatives & Trump supporters.

How on Earth is it not clear why people don't trust the election results or even more so how we ended up with 50,000+ people in DC and a small subset ending up inside the Capitol building?

To top all of that off, for over 3 months this past summer in multiple cities across the nation, blm/antifa threw very often violent protests that were watered down by the media as "mostly peaceful", despite millions of humans seeing with their own eyes what was happening. People were shot and killed in multiple places, multiple police officers were injured and killed. They tried to storm the White House & Portland Federal building.

How can you still claim it's all due to just one person? I find it to be total nonsense.

I'm sure I'll be downvoted for saying the above, but failure to at least recognize what I'm saying is a colossal mistake. This is what the other side is feeling.

There is clearly a large disenfranchised segment of the population. They have all kinds of reasons with varying degrees of veracity. Lots of people are trying to ignore it, sweep it under the rug, etc. But the real problem here is that a lot of corps+people are trying to "fix" it by stamping it out. Nearly half of the U.S. voted for trump - so I don't think stamping it out is going to work - but it might lead to worse things.

> I mean, they like guns. They talk about killing people all of the time. They look and sound crazy.

Nonsense, you've built a straw man. Maybe you've been hanging around 4chan too much and assuming that a subset of swamp creatures from the low parts of the internet represent the millions of Americans who support the President, but I assure you the overwhelming majority of conservatives are nice, hard-working people.

30+ people died as a direct result of the media-condoned protests over the past summer, led by blm/antifa and associated groups. Did your bubble predict that? Do you think those killings, burnings, lootings, violent behaviors were justified? If so, why is it ok for one group to protest in such a manner, but not the other?

Shouldn't we as a society, especially including the mainstream media, have a strict and principled standard that we apply?

daniel957, the point of a discussion website is to have discussion. If you'd like, we can talk about my comment and try to see if we can find any agreement or not.

It is true that 30+ people died, some of them from police, some, of them from being shot and murdered (chop/chaz/portland), some by other means. It doesn't change the fact that many people died as a direct result of ongoing chaos and anarchy that was largely dismissed as justifiable by the most prominent news organizations and pundits (cnn, nyt, wapo). Two wrongs don't make a right, we need to disavow all violent protests across the board and stop with double standards.

What do you disagree with?

You need to expand your bubble.

deleting my comment as parent seems to be uninterested in discussing an opinion that goes against their own.

dang@, where ya at?

No, your comment was just inappropriate. dang@ is the moderator.

And I don’t have discussions with delusional people. I wrote a super long reply to someone else as you clearly saw. But they weren’t talking like brainwashed people.

But if you did want to delete your comment instead of being passive aggressive, please do so.

daniel957, I deleted my comment because of YOUR passive aggressive response to whistle to the moderator. Nothing I said was threatening, harassing, or otherwise outside the scope of a discussion on a very sensitive topic in this country.

This is a public discussion platform and not a one-sided filter bubble. Many people will have different perspectives and it is indeed healthy to listen to and consider them, even if you disagree.

You made a throwaway to spout your conspiracy theories. How can we have a discussion?

which part is a conspiracy?

> only a day after nationalists stormed the nation's capitol with the intent to disrupt the democratic process in favor of an autocratic dictator.

I'm more curious to ask "why" people no longer trust the Government?

The real failure is that we've locked down society, destroyed the economy, and hastily thrown together an election so rife with problems that it's led to an environment where millions of people do not trust the outcome. The same leaders implementing the lockdowns are meanwhile dictating orders from tropical resorts or caught breaking their own rules in blatant shows of hypocrisy.

The States have not done an adequate job quelling election fraud suspicions and as a result the President and his supporters no longer believe the result. Can you blame them? Is blaming them productive? It fails to address the problem and it won't go away. Calling them white supremascists, nationalists, fasicsts, racists, and the other explicatives that have been used for the past four years is only going to further divide this nation and have the opposite intended outcome.

Did the media single out and target the people supporting, promoting, and engaging in the 3+ months of left-wing riots this past summer? Most of the media pundits now calling this latest event an insurrection, were previously condoning and explaining away "mostly peaceful" protests as multiple cities burned, as violent agitators stormed the Federal Courthouse in Portland for over 100 days, threw bombs, lit fires, burned cars, killed people (chop/chaz/portland), and more. And let's not pretend that had Trump won the election, Antifa and other left-wing groups wouldn't be over a month in of the same thing.

The level of hypocrisy and disconnect is so startling it's scary. What I see is a total lack of understanding across the spectrum, a total failure to acknowledge both sides and apply standards consistently and unequivocally, a total failure of communication and decency. I'm not sure how the country moves in a positive direction.

Or, they were encouraged to believe so by propaganda. And that led to the deaths of several people due to their insurrection, as most people not divorced from reality could have predicted several years before.

Just saying, there was little surprising yesterday to anyone who has taken time to talk to these conspiracy theorists and seen the level of fear they choose to live in and surround themselves with, though it is deeply sad.
