No scrolls found though.

No scrolls found because they were stolen:

>> "Although at the end of the day no scroll was found, and instead we ‘only’ found a piece of parchment rolled up in a jug that was being processed for writing, the findings indicate beyond any doubt that the cave contained scrolls that were stolen." -Dr. Gutfield

Yeah, despite reading the article I don't get the HN-front-page significance. I'd be tempted to guess this is more of a PR thing than a substantive find.

There's two things: 1) it's the first time anyone's found anything beyond the initial discovery 2) it's in the wrong place, which is huge.

This article doesn't seem to mention that it's in the "wrong" place. (How is that defined anyway?) The HU article linked in another comment does seem to hint at that a little.

Basically, it's not in any of the 11 caves that the Bedouins who were selling the DSS said that the DSS came from.

They've been finding scrolls for years even as far North as Jericho. Hopefully this finally put to death the Essene theory.

Norman Golb's book Who Wrote the Dead Sea Scrolls details the findings.

IIRC there was just one fragment of a scroll found years ago, with the cryptic message: "koyìsˀərun χàd ləwaþ χàd va"

Which loosely translates to: "Will anyone really believe this stuff?"

It's unclear what it was referring to.

I choose to believe it's a prophecy, foretelling the coming of a Universal search engine that will someday make that joke stop working.

All hail the universal search engine!

>koyìsˀərun χàd ləwaþ χàd va

For anyone curious, this is actually part of Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

>All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.

They were taken to the Vatican and stored with all the other documents from pre 300 in a room marked, "est realis historia".

The one guarded by lizard people?
