It’s a pain to remember which workaround still works at specific sites. I like archive links because they’re easy to find in the comments and they tend to work.

That's true, but I just leave javascript off for sites where that's enough. Various things break, e.g. you don't get pictures on NYT, but those don't add much to the story.
