Yes, I imagine it has been very rare in the past. I'm wondering if anyone has come across the issue before (or has a friend who works at Apple and knows the rules). I would hope that if they give you a new logic board that they'd at least be able to transfer your data. I know that they always make you sign a waiver saying that you've backed everything up and if you lose the data that's fine. Hopefully they would at least try to transfer the data for you, if this turns out to be a bug like it sounds like.
