The thing I'm looking for is a well defined upgrade path across major releases. Fedora has it. Debian has it. But centOS stream does not. If Alma does that then I'm happy to stick with Alma

Alma has had this for some time now - https://almalinux.org/elevate/ - and I see no reason why it would stop working after this announcement.
