Anyone tried to build it from sources, I bet what would kill this editor in the end is slow rust build time and complexity of language.


VS Code cannot be built from (public) sources at all, and that doesn't seem to have affected it's market share.

Why would that kill it? Have you ever tried to compile a browser?


no browser is fully built with rust, and that is why.


Full debug build on my 7 year old pc takes 1m 33s with all dependencies already downloaded.

I hope you don't know how long it takes to build Linux/llvm/macOS/gcc/Chrome/Firefox/...
