I live a large post-Soviet cities, and the biggest difference between US and our system is that we do not need to press the button here when we want to leave. Yes stops are arguably sparser, but the buses are guaranteed to stop at every stop. A small detail that nonetheless removes anxiety of missing your destination. Get in, pay, get out.
